What the No Surprises Act protects.
The federal No Surprises Act, in effect since 2022, protects patients from unexpected out-of-network balance billing for emergency care — regardless of which ER you go to. That means if you receive emergency treatment, you generally can't be billed more than your plan's in-network cost-sharing amount, even if the facility is technically out-of-network.
What this means for your visit.
- ✓No surprise out-of-network ER charges
- ✓Billed only your normal in-network cost-share
- ✓Applies to true emergency care nationwide
- ✓Right to a Good Faith Estimate for uninsured/self-pay patients

Frequently asked questions.
What is the No Surprises Act?
A federal law, in effect since 2022, that protects patients from unexpected out-of-network balance billing for emergency care, regardless of which facility they visit.
Does this mean my ER visit is free?
No. You're still responsible for your normal in-network cost-sharing (copay, coinsurance, deductible) under your insurance plan — the law simply prevents extra out-of-network surprise charges on top of that.
What if I'm uninsured?
Uninsured and self-pay patients have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before treatment for non-emergency services, and we offer transparent self-pay pricing and payment plans.
What should I do if I think I was billed incorrectly?
Contact our billing team directly — we're happy to review your bill and explain any charges. You can also dispute charges through the federal No Surprises Act complaint process if needed.
Does this protection apply everywhere, not just at ER Of Fort Worth?
Yes. The No Surprises Act is federal law and applies to emergency care nationwide, not just at our facility.
